Global Sustainability
In the last 50 years, global meat consumption has more than quadrupled. Currently, seafood is the main source of animal protein, with more than 2.6 billion people depending on the oceans to supply their needs. However, with the rise in consumption, humans have begun to take more fish from the ocean than the ocean can support. As natural resources diminish, alternative production methods grow increasingly important.
Aquaculture – the farming of fish, seaweed, shellfish and crustaceans – is one of the most promising innovations for providing the world with a safe, healthy and sustainable supply of high-quality seafood. In addition to helping preserve the remaining stock of wild fish, the controlled aquaculture environment ensures that the seafood you eat hasn’t been tainted by pollution and allows for a high level of consistency in quality and taste.
And, while fish farming has sometimes been criticized for some of its practices, AmStur’s facilities represent the gold standard in aquaculture. Certified as a “Best Choice” by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch, our closed systems mimic nature in the symbiotic relationships of plants and microorganisms, and we use only sustainable, healthy feed ingredients. With our attention to detail and commitment to environmental preservation, it’s no wonder that our caviar is among the finest in the world.
